English Language Development for Emerging Multilingual Learners

Our elementary school’s English Language Development (ELD) program is designed to support the success of our Emerging Multilingual Learners (EML) through both designated and integrated approaches. Each EML student receives 30 minutes of daily Designated ELD instruction, tailored to their specific English proficiency level as determined by the ELPAC. This instruction is aligned with the California ELD Standards and closely integrated with our FOSS science curriculum, ensuring that language development is connected to meaningful academic content.

In addition to Designated ELD, our teachers incorporate Integrated ELD strategies throughout the school day, embedding language development into all core subjects. This ensures that EML students are supported in developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English while accessing rigorous, grade-level academic content. Our comprehensive approach provides students with the language tools and academic support they need to thrive in all areas of learning.
