Music Program

Discover the joy of music at Monroe School—one of the few schools in California offering a full-time, credentialed music teacher dedicated to nurturing every child’s creativity and growth. Our comprehensive music program provides weekly, developmentally appropriate classes aligned with California standards for all students, ensuring a strong foundation in music education from TK through 6th grade.

Students in TK through 3rd grade experience engaging general music instruction, while those in 4th through 6th grades can participate in instrumental music, including band and orchestra. For students with extensive needs, we offer additional tailored music classes to ensure everyone can participate and thrive. Beyond scheduled classes, students are invited to drop into the music room during recess for extra art enrichment and exploration, fostering a vibrant and inclusive musical community.

Our music program is proud to present two major performances each year—a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert—where students shine in both grade-level ensembles and individual performances, celebrating their hard work and talent. Monroe’s commitment to excellence in music education has helped Santa Barbara earn recognition as a NAMM 2022 Best Community for Music Education.

Music at Monroe is more than just notes and rhythms—it strengthens memory, boosts academic achievement, teaches teamwork and responsibility, and nurtures social and emotional well-being. Through music, students build confidence, connect with others, and develop lifelong skills.

We invite families to get involved by encouraging practice at home, volunteering, attending our inspiring concerts, and supporting our thriving music community. Join us at Monroe, where music and the arts are a vital part of every student’s educational journey!
