Wilderness Youth Program - 4th Grade

Our elementary school is proud to partner with the Santa Barbara Wilderness Youth Project (WYP), a renowned organization dedicated to connecting children with the natural world through hands-on, outdoor experiences guided by skilled mentors. Through this partnership, our 4th grade students participate in regular excursions into Santa Barbara’s diverse wilderness areas, where they explore local creeks, mountains, and beaches alongside their classmates and caring adult leaders.

This program offers our students invaluable benefits: it fosters self-confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, while also nurturing a deep appreciation for the environment. Time spent outdoors with WYP has been shown to make students happier, healthier, and more engaged in their learning. By providing equitable access to nature, especially for those who might not otherwise have these opportunities, the partnership helps our students grow both academically and personally, supporting their overall well-being and inspiring a lifelong connection to the natural world.
